who else ordered a 5G iPod?
The 60GB finally got thinner, so I ordered one as soon as they were announced... the video capability is a plus, but I don't really care...
Who else is waiting for their 5G iPods? :)
oh yeah, the 40GB 4G is up for sale, PM me if interested... otherwise it'll appear on eBay as soon as I get the 60GB. ;)

I think I'm going to pick one up at the Apple Store tomorrow, just for the hell of it.
My 60GB Photo will most likely go on eBay as well.

are you sure they'd be available at the stores tomorrow? maybe I'd cancel my online order and pick one up at the store... probably get the universal dock as well... Always had docks with my iPods...

# 3 Re: who else ordered a 5G iPod?
The new 5G iPods won't be in stores until next week. Steve Jobs said this in his keynote speech. Then again, he said that there wasn't a need for a video iPod.
Anways, I was initially impressed with the new iPod. I was ready to sell my 4G black and white 40GB iPod to a friend for $150 with all my music and everything. Now, I am not ready to give up my iPod. My iPod does what I want it to do, it plays music for a period of 13.5 hours (and these are ~192kbps VBR mp3's made with Lame 3.96.1 and 3.97b1). I currently don't care about videos. It is nice and all but I think it is a total rip off to pay $1.99 a music video when so many sites offer music videos for free.
So I will probably upgrade to a new iPod when Apple finally goes the route and releases a PDA. In my opinion, I think this is the way Apple is moving. Soon they will add internet connectivity, larger LCD TFT screens, bluetooth connectivity, and a stylus input for using the internet and PDA features.
# 4 Re: who else ordered a 5G iPod?
I just ordered 60GB black (w/engraving) ipod video later Apple event today. some of you should know that it won't be available until next week. so mine will be 5-7 days. I didn't realize that my 30Gb ipod photo will be filled very quickly. it just taken only 7 months.
if you will order 30GB, it will be shipping within 24 hours.
# 5 Re: who else ordered a 5G iPod?
oh yeah, when Apple releases smart phone that works with Verizon with BT and wifi, and great iSync support, I would be all over it... but until then, I need more space on my iPod for my lossless library... I'll sell it on eBay later when something better comes out... to me my cans and CDs cost a lot more than an iPod so I don't really mind upgrading it once in a while... :)
I'm not that interested in an Apple PDA, I'd rather have a smart phone and an iPod, coz for me it makes a lot more sense to integrate PDA and phone than PDA and iPod. All-in-one would be nice though, but it would take some time...

Ah, OK. Thanks for the clarification. Regardless, I'm going to give my local Apple Store a call tomorrow and see if they have any in stock.

And they'll call the new PDA a Newton! Oh, wait...

They will think of something. It is only a matter of time until Apple releases a PDA or portable game playing device. They will probably call it the iPod whatsit.

# 12 Re: who else ordered a 5G iPod?
i ordered mine on wednesday!! along with iPod socks and the AppleCare plan.
I ordered a 30GB Black iPod 5thGen, with my name inscribed on the back :)
i had a 20 GB black&white clickwheel iPod, but it broke, and i got a new one, and then it broke again after a few months, so they sent me a gift certificate right when the new iPod with video came out, and i waited and waited for them to get it in store, but there's no way i could wait that long!!! and i wanted my name inscribed on the back :P IT'S SO HARD TO BE WITHOUT AN iPOD, MY iPOD WAS/IS MY LIFE!!! it's been like..two weeks.. :(!!!
# 13 Re: who else ordered a 5G iPod?
Well, i'm a true user, i haven't upgraded my iPod yet though it is tempting. I have a 20gb 3rdG and i have a color but i never use it. I won the color from a contest. my 20gb 3rd generation i like more. I'm not the type where as immediatly somthing new comes out, i buy it. I'm not that type. I'll wait until i have too, like my iPod breaks or somthing. No offense to anyone. My neighbor is that kind of person. He has 4 iPods!!! Who needs 4 iPods? Like, ayn, do you need all those iPods? He got his video yesterday. It's cool but it is not really different. As long as it plays music, i'm cool. I've been a apple user since like the first computer. I know how apple works. They realease somthing which is still the same thing just a bit different like it's a little thinner or it has color or whatever. They do that like every couple of months to keep the money rollin in. Think of it, why would they realease the nano only about 3 weeks before the video. They already had it made, why didn't they realease it at the same time. If your a bussiness person like i am, i know exactly why and it's a long explanation. I find apple very unfair. Like my uncle bough a iMac G5 2 days before the new iMac came out. Apple is greedy tooo. I have spent 10's and thousands of dollars on them and they still want me to pay 50 bucks for support. Don't get me wrong, but i love apple. They build very good stuff. Apple is a good company. Until you use there computers, now you know why, apple was #1 from the start. I used to be a hard core Windows User but now once you go Mac, you don't go back.
# 14 Re: who else ordered a 5G iPod?
I have just bought an Ipod 5g 30 gigger, and it's amazing. Of course the video option is still debatable. However, the thing is itself a beauty, much thinner and smaller thatn the previous one and the competitors.
But is it just me, or is converting mpeg videos to iPod fomat a long process??
# 15 Re: who else ordered a 5G iPod?
You payed over 300 bucks cause it's thinner, thats sad

I only paid $84 more. I returned my 20gb (money back!) and got the 60gb 5G for 384 with expedited shipping and tax included. So I paid 84 for 40 more gb, video capability, and the cool black color. I do miss my 4G though, since I've been waiting for the new one to ship.

# 17 Re: who else ordered a 5G iPod?
I paid $513 for my 4g 60GB iPod, which included a protection plan from Best Buy, and a protective skin which was $20 on it's own.
I returned it and got $481 back, because I also purchased a reward zone card.
(I'm not doing the math here...)
But anyway, with my student discount I am going to use at the Apple Store, I'll get my new 5G 60GB Black iPod, plus Applecare, for $418! So I saved money to upgrade :) Glad I played it smart.
# 18 Re: who else ordered a 5G iPod?
lol, ya whatever, If u read the long post i posted, then you will see how pointless it is to pay 84 bucks for a new iPod. Like JMG, do u really need a 4gb mini and a 60gb video? Why u return the 20gb? What was wrong with it? Where you too desperate to get a video so you returned you very nice 20gb iPod still to pay a extra 84 bucks. geeezzz, no offense, but it is pathetic. Now if i'm guessing right, JakeG88 just got his first iPod so no problem with that. I haven't upgraded my iPod for 2 years and it is still my first iPod! Beat That,

The 20gb 4G and the Mini were my first iPods... first mp3 players ever. The mini is primarily for my fiance. And since I filled my 20G INSTANTLY and was expecting to use my iPod as a recording device for practice sessions in my band I was excited to hear that the recording on the 5G would be in 44k instead of the pathetic 8k on the 4G. So you can see, there was something "wrong" with it. It wasn't as appropriate for my needs as the 5G is.
The 5G came out 2 WEEKS after I bought the 20G and I felt $84 was very little to spend for 3x the space alone... add in the recording enhancment, video, smaller unit, lyrics display, and black color and there is no doubt in my mind I made a wise choice.
I don't know what you're so angry about anyways... Keep your iPod then, no one is stopping you. I'm not complaining, just making decisions, and I wouldn't complain if i COULDN'T have returned the 20gb.. but the opportunity was there so I took it. Beat that.

lol, well i'm sorry, the day i wrote that, i lost roughly 20,000 dollars at work because of Levitz going into bankruptcy. long story. i'm sorry, i'll probly have to upgrade soon since i'm up to 3200 songs and almost out of space. What kind of work do you do for you to have too record. Sounds like a good idea so i can record business meetings so i don't lose so much money. I wish i could delete that. i feel like a idiot.
