Apple Slipcase or iPod Sock?

Please choose the appropriate forum for this topic. Thank you.

My 5G iPod is arriving this afternoon - I was out of the house for one hour yesterday for lunch, and missed TNT's delivery!

Anyway, a number of people have mentioned using Apple's provided slipcase and getting their screen scratched. I have a spare iPod sock - what does everyone think? Sock or slipcase? Slipcase or sock? Which do you think will be kinder to my new 5G?

Thanks for your opinions!

Don't go for the slipcase, it's far too tight.

I use slipcase for now but left the front shipping cover on until a decent cover is released.

I'm using the slip case now, HOWEVER, I haven't taken the factory plastic off the front of the iPod either. I'm holding out for the iSkin for the new 5G (video) unit.

I can tell you that the plastic has scratches on the screen area and I've been VERY careful with the unit.

The back is also very scratched much to my surprise.

Summary: don't use the slip case if you have a better alternative.

If I have to I'm going to trim down a static PocketPC screen protector and use that until someone starts making a decent case for these things.

I've cut down the front plastic so it's just over the screen, i have it in a sock and as mentioned above there are some scratches on the protective plastic. The plastic is starting to peel now though, so i'll need to find an alternative soon.

Mine looks right freaky. I used masking tape to close the wraping you get with it (Dont Steal Music one) and then I put in my old iriver case. Looks weird, but works perfect lol.

Put one hand inside the slipcase and hold the back, and use your other hand to stretch the material. I stretched it out for about a minute and my 60 GB iPod fit in it without issues. It didn't damage the stitching, and isn't a problem anymore. I don't understand why people are complaining about the case. I find it superior to the old one by a mile. I can't comment on scratching because I've opted to keep the transparent protector on until I get a Vaja case, but I can't imagine it being worse for scratching than that original case.

Sock, definately.

Every time i try to get the iPod out of the slipcase it feels like i'm trying to give birth to something.

The slipcase is boring, ugly and gets dirty really fast (and can't be washed like the sock).

The slip case is fine. Looks good, is small, and is not too tight. How can it be too tight anyway? It's a soft case. Unless you are sliding it in while laying in a sandbox, I don't know how you guys are scrathing your ipods. ! week old black 30gb, no protective anything, no scratches. Common sense is all the case I need until I get something perfect.

The case gets nice a loose over time.. Out of the box it seems way too tighta nd I coudl soo how debris coudl do some damage to the screen. Luckly I kept the plastic on until cases come out. The case is nice and loose now and actaully works well for now.

of course the slipcase can be washed, you silly dude. Why wouldn't it be?

and, I think that taking it in and out of either case is dangerous, and prone to dropping it on the cement.

I cut a hole in the slipcase for the screen. (clickwheel controls right through material)

I use a sock and it's pretty awesome. I would say it'll scratch (or well, leave insignificant hairline marks) less than the slipcase. And it keeps your iPod warm in the winter =)
