Audio Book in Music Library

I got this audiobook, and it's like got 100+ chapters in it--each an audio file.

I'm new to this, but if I add it to my music library, won't it like play when I play all of my songs together (AKA Shuffle Songs)?

It'd be pretty annoying.

I was wondering if there was any way to stop this.

It will be skipped in the shuffle if you convert it to a m4b file, it won't be if you have it as a bookmarkable mp3. I have a feeling you have no idea what i'm talking about so you need to study the guides at the top of this forum.

Basically those 100 files will be merged into one single file, so say if you have 1000 songs the you will very rarely hit that one file, and it's only a button press if you ever do.

There is a method (changes your mp3 file into a .m4b file) that will ensure that the merged file is always skipped but this is time consuming and annoying.

You can also use smart playlists to ensure that the audiobooks are skipped.

And how do I make a bookmarkable mp3? :3

t3homni--

It's only possible to make bookmarkable mp3 files if you have a newer (4th gen or better) iPod. Bookmarkable mp3 files won't play on 3rd gen iPods.

To make a bookmarkable mp3 file, you need to have the latest version of iTunes (5.01 I think) and I think you must also have the latest version of the iPod's firmware installed. Then there is an option in iTunes to make each file "bookmarkable".

Hope this helps--

I have an iPod nano. That'd work, right?

How do I make it all into one file, though?

It worked! =D

I'm just wondering, I've ticked skip when shuffling.

Will that stop it from coming up when I choose Shuffle Songs?

T3,
For future info, the easiest way is to simply download your audiobooks from iTunes or from Audible.com.

That way, they are already in the optimized audiobook format for iPod /iTunes. You just download and sync and you're on your way in about three minutes. And no worries about anything. It just works.

Well not totally true podunk, there have even been audiobook issues with stuff purchased from itms such as the Harry Potter stuff.

um...okay, if you want to knitpick. pretty much somewhere in the world, at some point, in time, you can pretty much assume some technology will run into a glitch.

Perhaps I should have said... "when everything is working correctly...it just works. :-)
