Music Store

Is there a good music store other than iTunes? I figured out that these subscription ones (Napster, Yahoo) only keep the music on your hard drive if you are subscribed. I want to download and keep mp3s album and single at a time. Thanks for recomendations.

I did a search. Do you have a suggestion for a key word(s)? Thanks.

I appriciate the effort, but it looks like all of these music stores are the same as Napster in that once you cancel your membership, the music is removed from your hard drive (or/and its not in .mp3 format). I looked into eMusic, and they don't carry main-stream music. Seems more like garage bands and stuff I have never heard of. Thanks for any other suggestions/recomendations.

I think allofmp3.com might be what you're looking for. The legality is questionable as you'll find if you search for allofmp3. As far as I'm concerned, if the money's not going to get to the record companies and then to the artists, you might as well use P2P.

Well, none of the stores I mentioned are subscription services. If its popular stuff you're looking for, the Real Music store has ten songs every week for 50 cents each.

Seems like they have both subscription and one-at-a-time like Napster, but they are still not in mp3 format...I guess now there is no such thing.

This looks a little shady, but interesting...do you use it? Heard any reviews, compaints etc.? It looks like they charge .20 per Mb, which isnt bad, but its not too clear. Thanks!

No, I don't use it. As I said, if the money's not going to the artists (and from what I've read about allofmp3, I'd be surprised if it was) then I'd rather buy the CD from a store, get it from emusic if they have it (haven't tried this service yet, but I'm planning to in the next few days) or use (gasp!) P2P. I can't put iTunes on my old Win ME machine, so until xmas when I buy a new machine, I can't buy from Apple.

Do a search for allofmp3.com and you'll find lots of stuff.
