That'd be the iPod pico.
After that, iPod femto, iPod atto, iPod zepto, and iPod yocto (this one gets implanted in your ear canal). :D

# 4 Re: How long before...
Yeah... hopefully it will sync wirelessly by then ;)

# 5 Re: How long before...
That's funny
# 6 Re: How long before...
I was thinking the excact same thing, I had the form factor from the regular iPods in mind .. (a bit more space on either side of the click wheel) .. but this will work perfectly for me.

# 7 Re: How long before...
Wouldn't surprise me. :D How big would this be though?! Haha, there would be nothing left...
# 8 Re: How long before...
Heh, it probably won't be that long if apple keeps this up..

# 9 Re: How long before...
how about this:
size of the ipod nono-mini, bigger screen with more pixels, video capable, supports every single audio format, completely scratch-proof, waterproof, dropproof, can hold up to 50, 000 songs, 200 hour battery life, and get this... can fold it shut to make it indestructable! (metal part is solid, hardened steel) bluetooth/WiFi enabled, has 100 games pre-loaded onto ipod, has built-in, high-voltage shocker so it will zap people who touches it unless you put in a password, built-in, high resolution camera, voice recorder, speaker, and fm transmitter. WOW!

The iPod Atom.
The good: Big on sound small in form factor.
The Bad: Due the impossibly small radioactive cell (which lasts an average of 14.9 hours per charge) in the iPod atom, if you accidently somehow split it, kiss your city block goodbye. That's right, all your base will belong to Apple.

You're living in a dream land, but I like the way you think
# 12 Re: How long before...
Everthing list as above, but now it's using Molecular technology to be embedded in the human body.
Gets it's power from your Nervous System.....Don't tell me this is far fetched...
Includes ALL options listed above as well as:
GPS
Mobile Phone (GSM / CDMA / Sat)
Can be upgraded (without a visit to the Doctor)
iTunes directly integrated into the unit
Also a new Neural version of iTunes:
This downloads music according to your mood and plays the tunes when (and only when) you really want!
just my 2c worth!

accidently split the atom!??!?! from my vast knowledge of the subject via watching half of a history channel documentary (it was long and boring and besides, I got the jist of it.) i think that is unlikely but I agree that all of our base would indeed belong to Apple in the event of said unitentional scientific breakthrough.

Hey guys, when will they iPod Nano Mini be released ??
# 17 Re: How long before...
Very good ;)
# 18 Re: How long before...
Ya know, It is often the case that science fiction predicts the future.
In Neil Stephanson's "Diamond Age", a character has an implanted music player that uses bone structure near the mandible as a speaker.
Also consider that Mr. Roddenberry mused about "the communicater" 200 years in the future, and we have such devices that out perforn his idea less than 40 years later.
# 19 Re: How long before...
go to this site and see this stuff: www,applele.com
click on the pictures link that is in the top and see the hole colection.
This guy should work for apple he is amazing...

i'm pretty sure they were kidding right now..
# 21 Re: How long before...
Seems a bit small and easily broken.
# 22 Re: How long before...
I suggest a different approach altogether, and a different quest for Apple and Steve Jobs - the iPod PNC. Here's the plan (dream):
First, Jobs & Co. would develop a pair of wireless earphones (not headphones), like those made by Shure, Etymotic Research, etc. The impossibly small, wireless, audiophile quality earphones that worked with the iPod and that would eliminate the primary objectionable part of the iPod experience today - wires. As a sequel to wireless headphones, Jobs & Co. would then focus their efforts towards eliminating the iPod altogether (gasp!), and usher in a new era of an always-on, personal network connection (PNC) that would allow customers to purchase and listen to music directly off of the network (whatever the prevailing network technology is at the time). I guess it could be called iPod-PNC. This is all sort-of Star-Trekish, but a ubiquitous network connnection for everyone is inevitable in the future...and it will someday significantly reduce or eliminate the need for GUI's like Windows (and thus Microsoft).
In the near-term, thought, I would be ecstatic to just have the wireless, audiophile quality earphones for my iPod!
For now, iPod nano is a big "small" step in the right direction.

# 24 Re: How long before...
funny, but ridiculously fake.
# 25 Re: How long before...
Question. Why is the proported "Nano" (as in "nano-technology") so friggin HUGE (10^9 too HUGE for being something in the nano world).
Is this Apple's brilliant idea of a "quantum" leap in naming its yet another ss playa?
Nano. My butt. Great marketing ploy, however.
iBop at 2007-11-15 14:55:53 >

# 26 Re: How long before...
they used nano because of the connotation it caries with apples target demographic, which is something really small and really high tech.
# 27 Re: How long before...
hahaha nice. I think you'd give the nano engineers a heart attack if that's their next challenge.

actually nano is 10^-9
that means it's 0.000000001
i think it's pretty damn small..
# 29 Re: How long before...
What about this?
iFlip: A nano which can fold in the middle like a flip phone. This would help protect the delicate screen.
# 30 Re: How long before...
iPod pico... love the pic.
How much smaller can it get? well, if we think the nano is small now, I'm sure they are working on something smaller and lighter. Just make it have good battery life and twice the flash of the biggest nano and it will be a hit.
# 31 Re: How long before...
The next small thing from Apple:
The iPod psycho--you pay $300, get an empty box, go insane trying to figure out what you payed for, and pretty soon you just hear the music in your head, on demand--no wires, no iPod, no more 99 cents per song, unlimited battery life. What could be simpler? And forget paying for $200 Altec Lansings--just sing if you want to share the iPod psycho love. Even better, your straightjacket will match your old white iPod.
Implants are messy, so I think this is a more practical direction for Apple. Mark my words.
# 32 Re: How long before...
Yes! The accessories would be fantastic!
First there'ld be the "iD" carrying case, then the "e-GO" car adapater (Super e-GO upgrade to follow).
...And!! When the video version comes out, not only will it come preinstalled with Meyers-Briggs profiling software, but episodes of the made-for-iPod-drama, "The Jung and the Restless"
(o.k., I'll stop know. So sorry, been watching too many Harleyquinn episodes of Batman)
hehehe. "Oh for shame, Mr. J! Hunt'n Batmans wit an elephant gun!"
:D
# 33 Re: How long before...
I was hoping they'd call this the iPod MicroMini.... lol.

Yeah, but just three weeks after we spent all our savings on the iPod atom, they'd go an discontinue it in favour of the iPod virtual... so small it doesn't exist, so cool you feel compelled to pay Jobs $199 for it! :D
