Smart playlists wont synch - iTunes created "My iPod selection" playlist

I have a 40gb iPod with around 5,800 songs on it. There is about 56mb space left. My library is significant larger than the iPod's capacity, so I have many songs unchecked.

On my last synch, iTunes created two separate "My iPod selection" playlists and the dialog box mentioned that it now synchs my iPod from these playlists. I would think that this would only occur if the data is beyond the iPod capacity. Is this due to my files being too close to the iPod's capacity?

Perhaps I should uncheck more songs or delete some non-music files (which in my case would consist only of album artwork)? After doing so, would do I set it up to synch from the library again, rather than from the playlists?

Thanks

You may consider switching over to "synch selected playlists only" and making your own individual playlists to sync the iPod too.

I already have lots of playlists. But I'm just wondering why iTunes created this "iPod selection" playlist when my iPod isn't full yet, and how to reset it to sync from the library again, not from the new playlist. No big deal, I guess.
