They discontinued the Minis because the nano was basically a better version of it. Rather than having a huge line of iPods, they cut the fat and got the nano. They wouldn't risk cutting the Shuffle out because that is a huge product as well. The only remaining option is BOLD, as Steve Jobs said, and that was to take out the most popular MP3 player in the world and replace it with the nano. Now possibly the most popular.

Not all is lost. Hopefully, there will be higher capacity drives for the mini and upgrade them ourselves.

>SIGH< I bought a 4 G mini in May, and I love it. Got it for $100 from audible.com. Bought it a case ($20) to protect the screen. Bought it an iTrip mini ($41), which works beautifully for my commute to work and back. Bought it an iStation ($99) so that we could listen to music at dinner or in our camper.

I know the battery will die in two or three years, but I figured I'd just buy the newest model. I'm pretty peeved to find that the things I bought to increase its functionality (especially the iTrip and the speakers) will also be obsolete, and that my investment to maintain the status quo will be much larger than just replacing the iPod.

I think that Apple ought to have a little more concern for compatibility with accessories that people will have sunk a fair amount of money into.

Well, the nano being a "popular" product, is most likely true... I went to the Apple store today, and the employees were THRILLED about the new nano, they loved it as much as the customers... Everybody in the store went over to the nanos, and listened to them... I have to say, the sound was great... but the screen is VERY small... well... you can see it fine... but... it's small... well, the whole nano is extremely small, and words really can't describe how thin it was... for those who haven't seen it in real life yet...

That's the price u pay to follow the Joneses.

Why u don't sound like a teenager who go ga-ga over the latest and greatest. The mini works as intended, keep it. Alot of us still think the round aluminum casing is still pretty kool.

why?because apple felt like it.even though it was the best-selling model,it'll soon be long gone.i have a mini, but i want something a little better.the nano looks okay, but it seems too fragile being as thin at it is.you know what i mean? maybe a facelift on the mini would've been nice, but apple decided otherwise.i just pray for something better from apple.the nano just doesn't float my boat.

Well, I'll just enjoy my mini for as long as I can, then when its time for a new one, we can go shopping, and see what the nano has to offer.
