PLEASE HELP ME!!!!

I recently formatted my computer because there was a lot of junk on it. Now that it is formatted i installed the software on the apple cd that came with my ipod and it said please connect your ipod to the cmputer and i did. But nothing happened. My ipod didnt recharge either. So i tried resetting it (menu and select). After i did this it started to recharge with the little icon in the top corner animating but it still showed the menu and everything. The computer still didnt recognize it. So i just asked it to skip it and install the software. Then launched the software and it said plug in a ipod to update it. I really do not know what to do at this time!!!!!! IT IS REALLY ####ING ME OFF. I tried disconnecting it and reconnecting but nothing happened. It didnt even charge this time so i reset it and again it did the same thing before and started to recharge. I still do not know if it did recharge because itg puts itself to sleep after a minute or two. So the problem i have is that my computer, ipod updater, or itunes will not recognize my ipod and to get it to what i think is rechagring i have to reset it every single time. I cannot restore it or update because noting at all will recognize it. I don't think my cable is messed up because it worked fine before i formatted my comp and i also tried many usb ports. PLLLLLLLLLLLEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAASSSSSSSSEEEEEEEE HELP ME PPPPPPPPPPLLLLLLLLLLLLLEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAASSSSSSSSEE EEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
