Also, you can get video using the apple firmware. Use Quicktime to...
a.) open a file
b.) save frames at 15 frames per second
c.) save audio to file
d.) Sync audio and frames in a "slideshow"
e.) Play your movie

Its a bit crappy, but its better than taking a chance on destroying an ipod photo. I know what i'd do.
