iPod Directories on my hard drive?

Hi

I've a partitioned hard drive and recently found that my 20gigs of music was taking up a large proportion of my C: drive. I'd partitioned this for pure Windows based programs. I decided to move the files across to another partition (J:\).

After I did this I lost all my music lists from my ITunes software (although the music is still in a folder on my J: drive). I then went into ITunes - Edit - Preferences - Advanced and adjusted the Itunes Music folder location to reflect the new location. The problem is I still can not get any music to show up in ITunes.

I have messed around reconfiguring to the point where I am now all tied up with directories being moved in every combination to try and get this to work. Unfortunately I do not have a System Restore point that I can use.

Can someone please tell me what directories iPod use intitially for the setup? At present I have J:\iPod Music as the parent directory which has 2 further directories (iTunes & My Music). iTunes has nothing in it. 'My music' has iTunes Music and License Backup. In my iTunes Music all of my music files are stored.

I think at some point I have either removed a file or rearranged a directory so that iTunes can not find my files. Can anyone lend some assistance?

Thanks a lot.

Reasonably simple answer.

Just delete all of the songs from your library, then drag the new folder from your j drive into the Itunes window.

Thanks for that. Yes fairly simply - although....

I've only got 2.8gbs of music files when I should have around 18gbs! I presume that I have somehow deleted them from my hard drive:confused: I haven't synchronised my Ipod with my dock yet so I have all the original music still on my Ipod. The problem will arise when I do dock. Will this mean that I will go from 18 to 2.8 gigs of music?

If so, is there anyway around so that I can add the music on my Ipod back onto my hard drive? Effectively using the hard drive of the Ipod as an external hard drive, as that is after all, one of the marketing gimmicks Apple use to sell the Ipod.

It shouldn't go down as long as auto sync is turned off in itunes.

Try this
in itunes -> file -> add folder to library -> point to J:
