Waiting for 5g or go buy an ipod 20gb photo?

I'm in the same position but ive decided to buy the 20gig now

Buy now! All of Apple's new releases of Pods seem to have glitches which they fix later on.
Buy your color version now, then buy the 5G once the bugs have been worked out.

I just bought a new color 60 gigger and couldn't be happier -- no audio distortion, static, pausing, or any of the other myriad problems that podders have posted about the color Ipod. Why? Because Apple fixed those problems and is reserving new problems for the first releases of the 5G.

Buy it now! the color interface is simply fantastic!

i've read about the ipod photo sound distorsion.... i'm SCAREDDDDD !!!!

I got my 60 gigger a week ago and I just love it so! the color interface is really an amazing improvement over the black and white -- plus the pod is so new that the new firmware (supporting podcasting) was already on it. I think this is the secret -- get yours from the freshest pod patch you can and you might avoid the distortion problem (which I definitely do not have.) Also try to buy from a store with a good return policy (ie: no restocking fee, if you can avoid it). That way if you run into a bum pod you can easily return it, no questions asked.

Definitely buy one -- you will love it! (Plus, if you want one badly you won't rest until you get it! Trust me, I know -- went through the same thing myself!)

If you want to have an amazing sound quality Mp3 player which can store your pictures as a backup and show them on mum's TV without you having to take your laptop round, as well as plugging into your hifi (via dock) for amazing sound, then you better buy now. Even if 5G comes out in Q4 or Q106 you will still be enjoying yours and can consider after a year or so whether you want to upgrade.

If you just want it as a fashion accessory, then buy a mini and wait. You don't need to play it, or connect any headphones, just wear it on a bright belt clip so everyone can see it ... ha ha

I'm glad you actually listened yourself and didn't hear. My 30g photo sounds great, slightly better in fact then by previous ipod. I am not doubting that some people have had distortion, I just am not convinced its in the system design. If you look at other Mp3 player sites you will see similar observations about all MP3 players from disgruntled users. The others all have severe problems: (1) the new Sony HD5 has a problem with cracked buttons, (2) toshiba gigbeat software and control switch is aweful, (3) creative sleek is B&W, has a high learning curve for the slider, and is the same price as the ipod 20 ... go figure.

From everything I has seen the problems appear to be:
1. Using headphones 'below' 32 ohms.
2. Badly recorded MP3 files which which had distortions which were not heard before due to the superior quality of the ipod

Millions of people have bought the ipod, and the total of users complaining on this site is in the 10s. In addition, I have not heard any review where this has been complained of, including audiophile hifi magazines reviews with an attention to detail.

I only believe what I hear. I have heard countless ipods in the Apple shop, from friends and my own, and have never heard this distortion. Buy one from a big supplier, like the apple shop, best buy, dixons, etc. If you don't like it, take it back.

by the way, this year Apple will introduce new ipod families coming Mac Expo paris 2005. (9/20~24) according to the rumors, there will be two different models for ipod shuffle, mini. ipod mini will have color screen with 6, 8GB hard drive. for shuffle, 2, 4GB with screen(?). but there is no news for 5G ipod. I think that the first quarter in next year, they will introduce it. but it will be very different which will be more like ipod video rather than just ipod.

jus buy it now,after IF a 5th gen is realeased read reviews on it,research it,let apple work out the bug a lil more THEN u can go for the 5th gen,jus buy the ipod now,i was in dis same situation but i chose to buy it now

I bought my first iPod just about two months before iPod Photos were announced/came out... but thanks to the number of people who want iPod's, I could sell my 'old' one online and not loose much money upgrading at all...

So I think even if the 5G does come out in a few months, I think you still have choices if it has features you really want.
