best way to run ipod through home stereo

Not really being an audiophile, what is the easiest way to run the IPod through a home stereo system? I tried the FM transistor, but that is very spotty.
Suggestions? Thanks.

Connect iPod Dock lineout to Aux in on your stereo using a suitable cable (Mini stereo jack to 2 RCA jacks).

Even easier than this, forget the Dock lineout and just use the headphone jack, but turn the volume on the iPod to max or near max. This won't give as clean of a sound as the lineout on the dock, but it doesn't seem like you care and plus you won't have to buy a dock.

Or, get the cable from Radio Shack for $7.99 and buy 22 songs with what's left over :)

My set-up:

- Dock
- Generic (CompUSA) AC power supply
- cable with male 1'8 stereo plug onone end, 2 RCA jacks on the other
- a pair fo RCA splitters
- Use splitters to hook iPod up in-line with CD player
- iPod wireless remote

This assumes you have RCA jacks you can use- most decent stereos do. It also lets me use my stereo remote for volume and the wireless iPod remote for selecting songs.

This kind of set up offers great quality and flexibility. For example, I could easily use a long 1/8" stereo extension cord and place the dock pretty much anywhere I liked- chair-side, for example. At work, I run about 25' of cord with no noticeable loss.

You can also use the PocketDock with Line Out instead of a 'real' dock.

Phono inputs aren't designed to take input for standard line level devices such as CD players, TVs, iPods, etc... they are designed to take input from phonographs, or record players.
