I don't think 7-11 is going to let you "return" a slurpee cup.

I can't even believe that a supermarket would let you return a pepsi, especially if you had cracked the top.

Use your own moral compass, but I wouldn't do this, as it is dishonest.

I'm thinking he lives in an area that required deposits for bottles. When they are returned a lot of people will put the caps back on. Personally I don't think that would be music piracy. Someone bought the Pepsi and threw away the cap. Same thing as if your friends gave you the caps.

As far as the Slurpees go, sure you might find a few cups around here and there that didn't have the code redeemed but there is a much lower distribution (8 million vs 200 million for Pepsi). What would be dishonest is stealing the code from the cup at 7-11 and potentially take it away from someone that purchases it later.

Ah yes. If it's a return for the deposit, there is nothing wrong with that at all! I thought he was talking about buying a pepsi, going home, getting the code and then trying to return said pop for a full refund... That's dishonest.

yeah we have bottle deposit in MI so i asked to go in the bottle bins and get the caps. if you ever happen to do this wear gloves and cloths you dont care about you will get dirty. but the 7-11 thing is a lil diffrent obviously i will be buying slurpees through the summer. my first thought was pull the cups out and take the codes. but that is obviously stealing the music so i thought "hmm not many ipodders around here" so illjust ask people for their codes. thats where the grey area comes in.

Asking for codes, finding codes on the street, in bins etc, is not grey at all as people have thrown them away as trash. If they are legit codes, they are yours. Of course there would always be the possibility that someone wrote down and code and then threw it away and was on their way home to use it, but I suppose that is a risk they take if they throw the original away.

It's a grey that is more white.

I raided the recycle bin on a regular basis at work for caps. :)

I had a friend send me a Slurpee code today. But, I've been giving her all the SportsPass codes I find, so it's all good. LOL!

If someone chucks the cap, it's fair game. But stealing 7-11 cups is not cool.

Agreed :)

However, it's not wrong. It equates to the fact that if someone throws his music collection into the trash bin, you can take it out. If you can stand the stench...

Actually, I meant stealing unused 7-11 cups from the store... not the trash. ;) Used 7-11 cups in the trash are fair game, just like the caps.
