Favourite Guitarist

I love Van Halen too! Like you, I feel Dave Lee Roth is so much better!

The Darkness, erm, they are an English band, who are glam/#### rock. If you like Van Halen you would probably like them.

2 people have said the group Van Halen but neither of them named the guitarist, Eddie Van Halen, who I feel is one of the greatest guitarists ever. It's hard to compare him to Jimi Hendrix though since they're from different generations.

Has no1 here heard of John Frusciante? He's the guitarist for the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Anyway here's my top 3:

Hendrix is the best. Tony Rice is another of my favorites.

You are not the first to mention Clapton. Classic Rock is very popular here.

Eric Clapton and Stevie Ray Vaughan. Without a doubt, the two best, at least in my opinion, guitarists of all time...

Clapton does not consider himself an equal to Hubert Sumlin, Howlin' Wolf's guitarist. Many don't realize that Wolf was also an incredible guitar player himself, but he preferred to employ a great guitarist and sing/blow harp.

For me Slash probably because I have seen him live.

Keith Urban is also a great guitarist although obviously not up with the likes being mentioned on this thread. I remember seeing him when he was a nothing ... and he jumped on our table and let that guitar rip. He was awesome.

I am glad we are talking about FAVOURITE guitarist and not BEST.

Lots of great lead players mentioned so far - but you can't forget the rhythm side, either. Staying in the classic rock vein mentioned by many others, I'd throw in votes for Pete Townshend and Keith Richards.

If you're going to mention the rythm side of it, then I would say Malcolm Young (AC/DC). A really great rythm guitarist.

didn't see a whole lot of him till the end of the posts, but imoa, Page. I also like Slash, Fruscianti (or however you spell it), Hendrix (duh) and George Haarrison (Beatles and post-beatles)

I havent seen YNGWIE J. MALMSTEEN mentioned so much! He's frickin awesome! However, the best ever has to be JIMI HENDRIX. Totally amazing!

Holy cow, nobody likes Jonny Greenwood? Listened to Glastonbury '97 today. The man is brilliant. For me, it's:

I'm surprised that the name Jerry Garcia hasn't come up yet.

Steve Kimock is my favorite current guitarist. So many guitarists rely on pentatonic scales to do stuff, and sure, it sounds cool, but it all starts sounding the same after a while, imho. Steve, on the other hand, is much more melodic than the vast majority of guitarists, who seem to be pulling out the same bag of tricks.

There's a lot of Steve Kimock Band stuff for free on the Live Music Archive at archive.org.

I like the Edge from U2 a lot. I think he's really really underrated. I don't know why. Prolly he gets overshadowded by Bonos Huge ego, like all the other guys.

My mate Adam IS the best guitarist i have ever seen.He IS also my favourite guitarist.It is pure chance that my mate is both...

hendix was good. I don't go for talent all the way, I go for inpact, inpressionability, and feeling. And how good it sounds. But Kurt meets em' all. Impact definatly. He may not have been the best but he certainly was talented.
