Causes of Hard Drive Failure/Exclamation Point Folder

I've had my iPod for a little over a month now, and I've had problems with it twice. The first time the exclamation point folder showed up, I spent about a week trying to fix it, and then broke in and got a new one from Apple. Now, the folder has come up again the replacement.

That begs me to ask the question: Am I doing something wrong? I don't think I am; I'm usually pretty good with electronics, and I don't abuse them. What (if any) acts would cause an iPod to get screwed up?

Here's my brainstorm of potential causes for my troubles (although none seem that harmful)
1) I usually walk around with my iPod in my pocket all day (and it's in a case, also). Would the heat from that be a problem?
2) I've got a few illicit mp3s on my iPod, although I don't think that would case problems (so many people have all-downloaded libraries without a problem)
3) Recharging iPod in its case (since it does get quite hot)
4) Disconnecting while it's transferring stuff (haven't done this at all with the replacement, so I don't think it's likely)

So, do any of those look bad? Are there any other possibilities? Or, do I simply have horrible luck?

Thanks.

you will either have to restore it or reboot the whole thing. The easiest way would be to reboot it if u have all your songs in your library. If u have the 4th gen hold menu and the select button til it shows the apple logo.
