Advice on hard drive to back up my music
I have my music on two cpu's. My iMac and my parents PC (2 different locations).
I want to get an external hard drive to get my music thats on my parents windows cpu and
transfer them to my iMac. I also want to then take all my music that will now be on my iMac and have it backed up on that external hard drive. With me so far. : )
Any suggestions on what to get? I'm not that up on external storage. Can I get something
that will work on windows and mac? Will my mac read the windows files from itunes?
Is it as easy as dragging the itunes library from the source list into the external hard drive
icon?
As you can tell, I'm trying to get all my music in one spot. Any advice would be greatly
appreciated.

you will need a drive that is usb or firewire like the lacie hard drive as these are universal formats. You could also buy network storage like the ximeta netdisk (if you have cable/dsl just connect the network drive to the router using a ethernet cable)

Ok, thanks.
I bought a western digital external hard drive. 120 gig.
So how do I transfer the music from the PC to the ext drive? Do I just drag the library from the source list in itunes and put it in the ext drive icon? OR do I have to go the the itunes folder. I'm not sure where that is. May sound stupid to ask but I'm a novice at this so please
help. I'm then going to take that music and put it on my iMac itunes library. If anybody has done this please give me a step by step instruction. The reason I'm asking is that I tried this a while back with a thumbnail drive and it didnt work. (at that time I was trying to transfer pc to pc) The pc I was trying to dump the music on wouldnt recognize the files.

See this thread. I posted specific instructions how to transfer your library that I found on the Apple web page. It worked perfectly for me.

Good luck.
Edit: I don't know if its the same process on your Macintosh.
