Tutorial: How to quickly steal from other peoples pcs

The fastest way to take other peoples songs (any file really) is to use your ipod, duh. First create a new directory on your ipod, mine's "My Data". This is where i store my stuff. One thing that i keep in here is Vpod. Sometimes there's an episode of joan of arcadia in there too.

Why Vpod? It's the fastest, smallest syncing program there is. It's freeware, and installation goes by in a heartbeat. It's less than 1/2 a meg.

Tutorial:
First install vpod to your "my data" folder on your ipod. You can also save the installer on the ipod and install on the pc your jacking into for faster transfers.

Then find another pc.

Connect using the USB2.0 cable. Why? It's faster. And every pc has usb. And i haven't tested with firewire yet

Goto my computer -> F:/ (or whatever the ipod's drive is named)

My Vpod app is located:
F:/my data/vpod/vpod.exe

Now run vpod and select a folder with songs. Lets use C:/My Shared Folder for Kazaa's sake. Vpod will group all songs by artist and album. Put a check mark next to the songs you want and click "Sync to Ipod"

In just a few seconds the songs are transfered to your ipod. Now click on "Unmount Ipod"

Unlpug your ipod and walk away casually.

You dont have to use this tutorial for just Vpod. You can install anything to your ipod. Hell you can install Quake and play on any pc you want without installing again

Technically interesting, but what people are you considering stealing from? I can't imagine a situation where you could manage all of that without being noticed. If you are talking about friends, family, collegues or whatever, can't you just ask? What's the need for sneakiness?

Awesome. It's a shame the USB cable is $25.

Hehe, this gave me images of people sneaking into houses and leeching music on people's computers.

First, most real world tests have shown USB 2.0 to be slightly slower than Firewire. Secondly your iPod is never going to come close to using the full bandwidth of either USB 2.0 or Firewire. As far as speed is concerned it doesn't matter. I wouldn't want to try copying anything larger than a few MB over USB 1.1, you'd be better of burning a CD.

I'd just copy the mp3s or whatever directly to your iPod (ie not syncing) and sync them later on your own computer.

No vpod doesnt do anything to your computer. It doesnt change tags, just sends mp3s to the ipod.

If you want to send them with disk mode, you'll have to rename all the mp3s with_underscores_instead_of_spaces_in_order_to_hea r_them. And if the filename is too long the ipod wont play it. This takes forever. Midas well sync it while you have the softare installed on your ipod

You only have to change the spaces_to_underscores if you're using windows ;)

churnopol, please learn a little about the iPod before posting such, well, garbage.

The iPod could care less whether the file names have underscores in them.

More importantly, Vpod does do more than just copy the file over, it also has to make an entry in the iPod's database--otherwise it won't be playable.
