Firewire Charger and PC
Hello,
I was wondering if there is anyway to have the dock plugged both into the charger and the pci firewire card. I need someway to do this so that I dont have to get under my desk everytime and switch between the charger and my pci card. I have a few ways that I think might work, but I'm not positive, so i need to know if they would be possible.
1. Get some sort of splitter for a Firewire cable.
2. plug in the charger into the pci firewire card on my pc with a 6pin-to-6pin cable. I'm wondering if the card could act as a channel between the charger and the iPod. Also wondering if it would work if the pc was off.
If anyone knows if one of these would work, please post here.
Thank You

The easiest way (but will only work if you have USB2 ports on your PC) is to get the USB2/Firewire cable from Apple and transfer your files to your iPod through USB2 and use the Firewire end and the AC adapter to charge your iPod. I haven't heard of a Firewire splitter.

I'm not sure as I don't have an iPod (yet) but the firewire connection will charge the iPod by itself, right? Why would you have to hook it up to a charger if you already have it plugged into a firewire port?

Shadow's right. You don't need the charger, firewire will charge the iPod..

I've heard from reviews that people have got longer playtime from the AC adaptor, which is wierd. The AC adaptor would have as much current it needs, while the firewire would not. I have no idea how this would make a difference, but I prefer charging to an always on adaptor.
Also, whats with Apple only supplying ONE cable with the iPod. This is the first product that I have spent so much on that requires you to buy a cable to charge it at a different place to where you dock it. I am forced to pay $35 for a crappy little white cable because of this.

If your firewire card has a female din input, pick up a +12v AC adapter at RadioShack and plug it in. This will charge your iPod while the firewire dock cable is connected to your pc. Works for me...
