Observations from a new PC Ipod user.
Hi there, after using Itunes for Windows for a bit I went out and bought a 20gig 3G Ipod.
A couple of things I have noticed:
I get static shocks occasionally when touching the Ipod in it's cradle if it is connected to my PC's firewire.
It also seems that there is a slight degradation to my PC's display quality when the Ipod is plugged into the firewire. Are there any known EMI issues with Ipod and PC's? I'm going to put a ferrite core on the cable and see what that does.
When I cradle the Ipod it will sometimes cause other external devices (USB 2 drive) to re-initialize.
I tried out the AAC encoding with Itunes as some had said it was better. I find it to be really thin sounding with no low end at all compared to MP3 encodes. I encoded with AAC at 256 and compared it to MP3's made at 256 with the Fraunhofer Pro codec and Audiograbber and there seems to be a big difference.
In general I am pretty happy with the unit. The sound quality is good with MP3 and the unit works well in conjunction with Itunes.

I very much doubt that the hard drive would have a strong enough magnetic field to influence the cathode rays inside your monitor, my unsheilded bookshelf speakers have been sitting next to my monitor for a while, and after degaussing, its all normal.
With MP3, try LAME, much better than any other MP3 codec now, so much so I've got my whole collection ripped in it.
Also, if you want to get rid of fingerprints on the back, then do like I did: http://members.optusnet.com.au/ajpodnar/3.JPG

What is it you say that you did? that photo doesn't really say much...

Oh, sorry, I brushed the back of my ipod, so it is no longer chrome and a fingerprint magnet. I did this by using the rough side of a sponge, and then using a square guide and sitting there rubbing it for about an hour, it looks very professional.
