ipod serevice error

k, here's the scoop

plugged ipod into computer 2 yesterday and fired up itunes and get a message that says some of the software needed to load the ipod is hosed up or missing and that i need to reinstall itunes. well, after reinstalling for the 10th time, i still get the same message. i have blown out folders, registry entries, the whole nine yards, with no luck. so then i am thinking, okay maybe the itunes db file on the ipod is hosed and i need to reformat the ipod so i download and install updater 1.3, reboot the pc and when i fire it up, i get an ipod service error and i can't run the updater. WTF?

Make sure that you've uninstalled iPod Manger and iPod Software for Windows. They may or may not still be on your PC.

I hate to be a newbie dregging up an old thread, but I have the same problem. After formatting my HDD and reinstalling iTunes I started getting the infamous Error Report dialog. I uninstaalled it removed everything related to iTunes and the iPod, then reinstalled it and got the same thing. I then removed everything again an installed only the updater, and now I get the "Ipod service error."

Any more insight?

I had this problem too, I solved it by updating my iPod again using the 1.3 updater, I also got the iPod Service Error using the updater. The solution to that problem is this:
1: Go to program files\ipod\bin and MOVE (not copy) the ipod service file to the 1.3_update folder also in the program files\ipod directory.
2: reboot your computer, you can now restore your ipod and I had to reinstall iTunes too

This helped for me, hope it works for you guys too, good luck.

Great!

I got my iPod today and couldn't get it to work much to my chagrin but then stumbled upon this wonderful thread. It seems that this is also th case with updater 2.1 which I have. So If anyone knows how/can Apple Support and tell them we have another solution it'd be a lot better for all iPod users. The first thing I did was go to the support section of the apple site but nothing worked...Anyways, thanks for posting this solution it seems like it's the most common solution to this problem.

Hi, i know a solution was posted above but it didn't solve my problem, i've unistalled-reinstalled everything and did what the above post said but after i rebooted this installer thing comes up and says it can't find the installer program for 2.1, any feedback?
