Coverted Mac ipod to Win ipod. A problem. Please help

Ok as the topic indicates, I purchased 10GB 2g Mac ipod by mistake for my fathers bday. Well it wasn't a mistake, the person on ebay lied about it being for Win and Mac. So I searched the board and found an article indicating that I could convert my ipod.

I downloaded and ran the "Windows 1.3 iPod Updater," then selected restore. It indicated that it couldn't unmount the ipod, so I did manually, then plugged it back in. The apple logo image and a progress bar appeared on the ipod. It looked like it was going well. It finished, and I launched ephpod. Added 4 songs and it went well.

Next, I unmounted the ipod to see if I could see the new files, but nothing happened. No apple logo, nthing. Just a blank screen. No indication of power or anything. It wouldn't even reset (play+menu).

I then figured I'd try restore again. This time it prompted me to unplug the ipod so that it could re-flash. It said to wait until the "plug ipod back in" message appeared. But after unplugging, the same thing happens. Nothing. It just sits there with a blank screen. When I plug it back in, the Apple logo appears, and the progress bar shows up again. It seems like when unpluging it theres no power.

Can someone please let me know what to do? Thanks.

This is not normal. Typically what should happen is the progress bar should finish, then the iPod should show the Apple logo and the main menu should come up.

So, you're sure it's a 2g right? Buttons are around the center dial?

Have you let the iPod charge overnight? Charging through the AC Adaptor? It sounds to me like this iPod isn't holding a charge.

That's what I'm doing now. The problem is definately that it isn't holding a charge, but considering that the unit was sitting in it's wrapped box for half a week now, and who knows how long in the distrobuter's location, it jsut needs an overniht charge. But I would imagein that even after 10 minutes of charging it should still hold SOME charge right? At least that's how my ipod functions. But then again my ipod has never been completely drained.

I have another question. I know that on the 2G leaving it plugged into your computer can cause memory on the battery. But on the 3G you can unmount and still leave it plugged in to charge. 2G also has unmounting functionality. Does it work the same way, or do I still have to plug it into the wall when charging overnight to avoid memory.

Memory is a function of the type of battery - not a function of the model of iPod.

No iPods will have a memory effect.

If it doesn't hold a charge at all I would send that baby back. Was it charged when you got it?

I know that memory is a function of the battery type. I was under the impression that only the 3G housed Lithiuim based batteries which as we all know are free from the effects of memory.

I have already submitted a request for service. Apple should be sending me one of their speedy packages shortly.
