Computer not finding iPod

Hi. I got my brand new 3d gen 40gb last week. My computer doesnt find my iPod. When I dock the applesymbol shows and then it starts with the diskscan. When its completed, it shows the symbol for no problems found, and stays that way till I take it out of the dock. I might have been in a little bit of a hurry last week when I got it and took it out of the dock while it said "do not disconnect". Now it does not charge when its docked, it doesnt do anything. Ive read the forum, and Ive deleted the iPodmanager, uninstalled the MMJB plugin and all of Musicmatch.

I run win XP and have a rather cheap firewirecard connected. Its called
Sunsway/ST Lab PCI FireWire 2+1 port.

Does anybody know how I might solve this problem? I think it might be something with the firewire. I have pressed menu+play/pause for 5 seconds, but its not helping. Would really like to get my iPod playing music soon.
Thanks

Try doing a reset (menu + pause/Play) then at the Apple logo, press the FF and REW buttons until it says OK to Disconnect. Then connect it. That should do it.

Then, run the Updater (Start>Programs>iPod>Updater) and do a Restore.

I had the same problem... XP Pro with VIA chipset Firewire. Then I tried it on an I-Mac... didn't work.

I exchanged it... the new one worked on XP right out of the box. Try and find a friend w/ a better FIREWIRE card and try it... if it still doesn't work, it's a bad one.
