Dock reqiured for windows?!

I just ordered my refurbed 10gb ipod (2g i think, touch weel) and the firewire to usb2.0 cable. to use my ipod with windows do i need the dock? im fesh out of cash now, and that would put a damper on my excitement... please reply.

You can not use USB with a 1st or 2nd gen ipod. It is only for iPods with the dock connector at the bottom of the ipod, with the 4 touch buttons under the screeniamaustin at 2007-11-15 17:08:27 >

so what then, im screwed? just ordered this cable i cant use, and my pc doensnt have firewire...AT case, so id need an expensive low profile PCI card...

However, I'm a bit curious... you said 2G with touchwheel? Aren't all touchwheels 3Gs? And 10G with a touchwheel is a 3G that can do both USB and dock (but it was the cheapest one and the dock was optional)? I think you should be fine...piotr at 2007-11-15 17:14:29 >

1g is scroll weel, 2g is touch weel, 3g is touch weel and dock connector i guess... seems i do need a low profile firewire card. any suggestions? i have a gateway pc.the problem is, the 2g has no dock connector, the usb cable needs a dock connector.
