Why doesnt windows iPod software want to notice my iPod?!?
Why doesn't any software (iPod manager, vPod) want to see my iPod? It's wierd because it worked the first two days i used it and now its stopped working. However, the computer seems to be recognising it (sometimes) as a removable storage device. The annoying thing is: it shows the folders calenders, contacts .etc, but alas no mp3s to be seen!! I mean if i could drag and drop mp3s into there then i wouldn't mind too much about the software not working. I'm using Windows XP Pro with a USB 2.0 if that helps. Any ideas what's wrong? Thanks in advance, Joe.

I'm not sure what it going on I've had it since late May and it worked fine for months. And at some point my computer just stopped recognizing it I can load anything on or off. Apple won't give me support unless I pay and I can't seem to get any help from anyone. I sent it back and Apple sent it back to me and said nothing was wrong with it. I just don't get it.

Magus, you might have a conflict somewhere. Make sure you turn off everything i.e. virus software, firewall, etc. I would also suggest disconnecting any external devices. Then give it a shot and see what happens. If it works, you then have to narrow down what the problem was.

Thanks Gert but i just managed to fix it. I just uninstalled all the iPod software, installed the 2.1 updater, did a restore on my iPod, then used Ephpod (for the first time) and what do you know? it worked! I think iTunes might have messed things up when i installed it and decided to unistall more a less straight away because i didn't like it. Anyway, hopefully i won't have to keep doing that.

I'm having the same trouble.

It's an application that connects to your iPod so you can upload your songs .etc. I'm finding it ALOT better then iTunes or MusicMatch, what's more it's free! Visit http://www.ephpod.com.

My IPOD was bad. I exchanged it at Circuit City. The new one worked right out of the box. The guy said there may be a bad batch of IPOD b/c he's gotten a number of exchanges by people saying the Windows doesn't see the IPOD.

Yea thats very strange actually its funny I bought a new computer today one of the Sony VIOS and it still won;t work. And its too late for me to take it back to best buy. I may try sending it back to apple again this is super crazy. They better replace it its not working with windows and its really ####ing me off.

if i?m not mistaken, the manager gets disabled when you install itunes. it?s not needed when you have itunes, because itunes does everything the manager does.
