you seem a little confused. and in the wrong area.

but i digress.

if your ipod is a 2nd gen, you cannot use the firewire/usb cable. there's seems to be some confusion here, because you say touch wheel, and that generally refers to 2nd gen. it's a given with 3rd gen.

and if you don't have fire wire, it's worth it to pay $50 and buy a PCI firewire card. fire wire works better, and it can charge the ipod directly, and there are more uses for it. make sure to only buy a belkin card or an adaptec card. others are cheaper, but they will NOT work with an ipod. period. i've dealt with tons of people who've tried to skimp on the cards. nope. doesn't happen.

anyway, a moderator will probably move this post.

Actually, I skimped and got a no-name card that works flawlessly, even charges, and has two USB2 ports on it to boot, for $11.50.

Same here - I can charge my MacPod on my PC with a PCI FW card I bought for $25 (3 ports) and while Winduhs wants to format the iPod (I tell it not to), it just keeps on charging. The point is, the card works just fine and I did not spend top $...

I have got a USB and Firewire cable coming in the post but it is taking frikkin ages and I cant find any stores that sell them, so would a Fire Wire card be available and work with a old and crappy Compaq 1200 with 64 Mb RAM 700 Hz Processor and lots of music clogging up the HD.
