Uh oh... Ipod disappeared from itune
Something happened a couple of nights ago. Left Ipod charging (I think using the PC's firewire port). Woke up next morning, noticed battery was pretty well drained. My PC runs 24/7, so I don't think it is the "PC sleep" issue. Charged it back up using the firewire/AC adapter combo. However, now when I use the firewire connection, my PC does not recognize the Ipod and Ipod does not go into the comm mode. When I start Itune after plugging the Ipod, my Ipod is shown briefly ( < 1 second) on the source window and then it disappears. Funny thing is that I can still access my Ipod using the USB wire and Ephpod. Ephpod and firewire doesn't work. Maybe my firewire card is blown, but why would Itune see the Ipod then lose the connection? Upgraded to 2.1 a week or two ago without any problems, and now this. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I've been having the same problem. I thought it might be a corrupt database so I opened Ephpod, chose Rebuild database from Ipod and then tried Itunes again and it worked fine. Problem repeated yesterday and on second connect, worked fine again.
No problem with computer or Ephpod recognizing the ipod so I'm thinking it's an itunes problem...

What you might try drssyoon is uninstalling the Firewire card and the iPod in Device Manager, then rebooting.
Just a thought--

I did some more research and decided to re-initialize the Ipod using the 2.1 updater. Everything is back to normal including the firewire issue - for how long? I don't know. Thanks for all your suggestions.
