Confused....getting bitter

Alright so I've had my Ipod for almost a week now. It started off well, no problems installing my new firewire card, using MM to put songs it, etc. After that first night I had about 2000 songs on the Ipod, no sweat. Then I restarted my comp. and the firewire had issues, but I resolved that.
so now....I decided to stop using musicmatch and give ephpod a shot. Had no problems getting it set up...but now that I'm using ephpod my ipod never stops with the "Do no disconnect" screen. comes on as soon as I plug it in to my computer, never stops, even after i close ephpod. and ephpod works fine...until i close it. i save everything, and then hit X...and the error message pops up saying ephpod couldn't close normally and I may have lost all my data. so now i'm stuck. i already reset my ipod once (menu/play together for like 10 seconds).
don't know what else to do and I'm really getting frustrated..what started off as a love affair is turning bitter...
can anyone help?

edit -
the do not disconnect screen finally went off...when i shut down my computer. i do not want to have to shut down my comp. just to take my ipod out of its dock and go. please help!:(

I think you need to tell the ipod to eject. I think when you are using ephpod as a program the iPod is connected in firewire mode. Make sure it is unmounted and that there is no transfering going on in ephpod and it will be safe to disconnect even if it is flashing do not disconnect.

if you have the ipod manager, you can click on its icon in the system tray and click 'unmount ipod'. or you should also have an 'uplug or eject hardware' icon in the system tray as well when you dock your ipod.
