Question about tagging files...

Ok here's my situation:

I have my mp3s that i want to sync with musicmatch, but they are in another folder, and i don't want to put them in my music folder because it would take too long to find them to change the tags you know?

so my question is:

is there anyway to use musicmatch to just TAG a file without actually putting it into your library?

help would be greatly appreciated!!

Not w/MMJB. Why don't you use a good tagging program. Like id3-tagit. It's free and works much better than MMJB does at tagging

You can get it from www.id3-tagit.de.

yeah that program's kinda confusing...

just some questions.

what is the idv1 and idv2?

what do those mean(because in musicmatch it just changes the tags), does it have any significance? and is it better to change multiple tags?

version 1 and version 2

I don't know all of the distinctions but obviously, 2 is newer. I believe it has more data fields (like album art).

The only drawback is v2 is that older software and older MP3 players don't support it. So if you moved a file tagged with v2 to a player (like an old Rio) that understood v1, it might display as the filename, rather than song title.

I recommend using version 2 (specifically version 2.3) it's the most widely adopted.

If you ever need to use V1 tags for anything, it's a simple matter of clicking on the toolbard button to create V1 tags from V2 tags. I recommend deleteing all v1 tags (unless needed of course).
