No firewire device in Windows Device Manager?

Like many of you, I'm about ready to call it quits with trying to get Windows XP to recognize my iPod. I've been following the forum here and the discussion forum at Apple, tried many of the suggestions, but to no avail. I've not tried using a USB cable yet, but that's one of the few remaining possibilities.

What should I see in Device Manager to indicate that Windows sees my firewire card? It sees the USB ports (which work with other devices just fine), as well as everything else, but I don't see anything that looks like a firewire port. If this is the problem (and I'm praying it is), how do I go about fixing this?

Thanks for any and all suggestions :)

The firewire card should be listed under Network Adapters as a 1394 Net Adapter.

All I show under network adapters is one item, which is an Ethernet card...no other listings under that category. I suppose that could be the problem!

Hi,

I have the same problem with my IPOD. The firewire-card shows up in the device manager as 1394 Netadapter, my IPOD is being charged but not recognized by my PC.

It sucks!

Freak4sneakerz, you've installed the iPod drivers right?

freak, I have the same problem, I've done 3 things to try and fix this as well, and every single possible solution yeilds the same result: No hard drive shows up in windows explorer (in which the harddrive would be my attached ipod)

I bought a belkin certified firewire card, didn't work

I bought the docking station and the usb connector, didn't work

I have tried my ipod with both usb and firewire on other computers and it worked fine, which suggests something is wrong with my machine, I have xp and all the windows updates possible as well as the most recent bios version for my motherboard, I just don't know wtf is up, it's pretty #### stupid
