Which is faster? Firewire or USB2?

Speed is *about* the same for both.But, use firewire...you won;t need to buy the special $20 USB cable from Apple. :)

USB 2.0 does have a slighty higher spec on paper but Firewire proves to bit just a tad faster in real life. Firewire does offer you to charge from your computer when it is powered up which is a really neat thing saving a cable under your desk. Great if you like me have a lot of cables there already - not even sure I could fit another cable under there if I wanted to :)mufoxe at 2007-11-15 17:05:29 >

Like mufoxe said, I believe the offical story is that USB2 has a faster theoretical speed, but firewire guarantee's the bandwidth offered to each device and is usually faster in real life.Then there are the other benefits like being able to charge, not needing to buy an extra cable etc..

It has no bearing what so ever on which is faster. On paper USB2 is faster, but I challenge you to find a product on the market that actually uses up even half of firewires bandwidth. The iPod certainly doesn't.Adam at 2007-11-15 17:07:38 >

USB works faster for me (about 12%) it's also more stable. Since USB cable from Apple has two connectors, then you can still charge your iPod using firewire part of the cable, since your computer has both type of interfaces.MOCKBA at 2007-11-15 17:08:37 >

480mb/s VS 400mb/s.firewire 800 blows usb2.0 out of the water anyways. In theory USB 2.0 is faster, but doesnt preform that well.

I say it again, find one product on sale that uses even half of Firewire 400. Specs mean nothing with FW400/800 and USB2.The bottleneck is 100% to do with the iPod, and the speed of its hard drive, not the connection.
