totally frickin confused
ok before anyone gives me grief let me just say that *yes* I'm a dolt for the scenario I am in :)
I do NOT have all of my music stored on my HD - in fact none of it resides on my HD. It all resides directly on the iPod itself...
How do I get the files off of my iPod and onto my HD?
How or can I move my iPod files directly into my iTunes Library?
I know how to create playlists which obviously doesnt help me here. I am looking to transfer the actual content which resides on my iPod - about 10GB worth.
I am using a Gen2 iPod and Windows XP along with iTunes for Windows.

You'll need a third party app. If you go to http:/versiontracker.com you'll find several for mac and windoze depending on what your flavour is.

thanks - tried the PodUtil from KennettUK...
It gets to song #68 of 2108 and than an error message occurs.
The files are a combo of AAC and MP3...
Tried it 3x with the identical error message popping up. The util should just skip over a corrupted song if thats the case...
Any other utils out there?

Actually you don't need any program for this when you use Windows.
Just copy the music directly from the iPod with drag and drop.

If you have the iPod connected, it should show (in My Computer) a hard drive icon for iPod. I think you can get the files off that :\ I could be wrong though...

I have come across precisely this same problem, both when copying from the hidden iPod folder to hard drives as well as through Podutil.
I'm not sure, but I think that the problem either lies in the way the file is named -- perhaps breaking Windows' naming rules, or that the song has some corruption in it that makes it okay to play in iTunes and on the iPod itself, but makes it impossible to copy it using standard drag & drop mechanisms -- though (of course) it DID get onto the ipod in some manner.
I would appreciate any suggestions on how to make a backup of my ipod without it being stopped in the middle. Thanks.
