Skipping track 1 from an album??
Has anyone else tried to play an album on the iPod and when you select either All or the album itself and click start, I have some albums that will skip the first track, but yet there are others that don't skip the first track. I thought it may have been a tagging issue so I went in and on all of the tracks I change them to show like 1 of 22, 2 of 22, etc, but that still didn't fix it. Does anyone think this is a software glitch that may need a patch to fix? Any other suggestions?
Thanks,
Slaughter

When you select a song to play on your iPod, the iPod has go look for it.
If it takes too long to find it, like, more than 2 seconds, it will skip it and move on to the next one.
There's no problem with your iPod. There is, however, a problem with your iTunes.
The iPod has 20 folders where it stores its songs, so it'll have an easier time finding a song, than if it was all in one folder.
All programs that feed the iPod can rename the song and distribute it thru the folders so iPod's database can easily find it.
It's easier to find song 03451.mp3 on folder 15, for instance, than song "love is hell (live v.mp3) on a single folder.
iTunes, however is not distributing songs thru all the iPod's folders, and is not renaming them.
So you'll have the symptoms you're describing.
Apple is aware of the problem, so at least that's something.

Thanks for the info.
I have all my MP3s on a seperate hard drive entirely, but I have all of them in one folder (iPod), but then I have several hundred subfolders by Artists, which some of them even have subfolders on an album by album basis. I hope if Apple does know about this error that they would implement a patch for it, which should solve the problem.

Slaughter.
roland is talking about the folders on the iPod. They are called F00 thru F19. (if you look at the iPod via explorer, you should see them - you have to have 'show hidden and system files' tuned on)
It doesnt matter where on your PC harddrive they come from, it's where they end up on the iPod that matters. iTunes is putting them all in one or two of the Fxx folders, not splattering them around like every other 3rd party software does...
Cheers, Tim.

# 4 Re: Skipping track 1 from an album??
Just to update, this problem has been fixed now with iTunes 4.1.1 update. iTunes fully distributes all the files around and I have no skipping or lag issues anymore! This puts iTunes ahead in my book.

A funny thing is that I think I have iTunes 4.1, when I go to Help/Check For iTunes Updates, I get a pop up that says, "This version of iTunes (4.1) is the current version. Why can't I get 4.1.1?

I had to redownload and reinstall (right over 4.1) manually. Don't worry, it keeps all of your settings.
