Re-format to FAT32 problem

On Windows, trying to use 20gb iPod with iTunes. I used to use the iPod with my iMac. I have downloaded the Updater 2.0.6 and 1.3 and have gotten the same result with both.

I get the error message: Updater can't install firmware on connected iPod. The iPod's hardware and the updater firmware are not compatible.

My firewire port is working properly and recognizes the iPod. My iTunes works great. I know I have downloaded and installed the Updater properly, because the window comes up where I can Update or Restore my iPod. But before it lets me, I get the error message.

My only thought is that because it was originally a Mac iPod, and I don't have a Windows compatible CD, there is a software problem. But doesn't the 1.3 updater have all the same things as Updater 1.0, plus .3 more?

What about PCI latency? That shouldn't be an issue because my Firewire port is working properly, right? Do I need a new Firewire card?

Is there anyone who can give a hand?
