Updated iPod to 2.1 but XP thinks I still need to update

I updated my iPod to 2.1 successfully. However, every time I put my iPod back on the cradle it says:

"Your iPod's software is not up to date. Click the Run Updater button to update your iPod's software to the latest version."

I have redone the updater several times and confirmed that 2.1 is running on the iPod, but I still get the message. I never got this before and have had my 3G for several months.

This isn't terrible, just annoying.

Any ideas? Anyone else getting this message?

Windows XP Professional
6 wire firewire connection
3G 15GB
iTunes for Windows installed

Additional info:

When I mount this iPod on my laptop, running same iPodservice.exe software, I do not get this message.

I fixed this problem by doing a "restore" with iPod Updater with 2.1 firmware. Perhaps "updates" are ineffective and can cause this problem.
