Anybody extract ipodupater.exe from 2.1?

I don't like all the crap that comes with the 20MB firmware. Can someone post just this so I don't have to install the whole thing and then uninstall after I found the updater? I don't like all the services running that come with the full instal.
Thanks!

The firmware is not included in that download (since the firmware is not a 20MB download, I am assuming you are referring to the 19MB iTunes download). You get it separately from http://www.apple.com/ipod/download .

The update was 17MB, which seems a bit large for what it is. So I dl'ed 40MB from apple yesterday including iTunes.

I couldn't get the setup to install the updater software (same problem I had with 2.0.1), it'd just run without an error but not install anything.

I managed to get the updater by running the setup.exe file and once it gets to the license?? screen where you have to click next, either do a search for iPod-for-win-updater-instlr.exe or if your on Win XP/Win2000 go to your hidden temp directory (in documents & settings/your username/local settings/temp/) and their will be a folder in their containing the unpacked updater exe.

OK, it is 17.9MB, I was rounding. Still a big install that is unnecessary IMO. I tried to extract the files with winrar and winzip. All I got was a bunch of cab's and determined it was not worth the effort to extract the cab's, so I installed, copied ipodupdater.exe and then uninstalled, which removed ipod service:)

On 2.1, I love it, I swear my tunes sound better. The firmware upgrade went flawless too.

Thanks,

LJ
