Formatted PC and reinstalled ipod software, music gone?

I just recently formatted my PC and now I wanted to reinstall the software to use my ipod again. I had about 1800 songs on it.
Now all my songs are gone? I just installed the driver software on my pc and now everything's gone on my ipod?
Is there a way to get my music back?

If your music was on your computer hard drive and you reformatted that, it would erase all data including music. If you refomatted (restored) your ipod, it would erase all data including all your music.

I'm not sure that answered your question, re-word it in complete sentences so it'll make more sense.
