2.1 update problems

I just installed iTunes, which is working fine, but I also installed the 2.1 updater, which had issues trying to restart after installation, and when Windows (XP) did restart, there was no iPod Manager, just the updater, which didn't work. I tried reinstalling it a couple times, and then reinstalled the software from the CD which came with the iPod, which worked in a manner of speaking, but now the icon for iPod Manager has a big red X on it in the Start menu, and when I click on it nothing happens. As a result, iTunes functions and is very pretty, but it won't access the iPod, which is not so useful. Any suggestions as to getting iPod Manager functional would be greatly appreciated.

OK, I didn't want to try it, but I just took the risk and wiped the 'Pod using Updater's Restore command, and iTunes noticed it as soon as it was done. So, um, problem solved.

So is this a common thing for the manager icon to disapear from the system tray?

Yes, you don't need it.

The iPod should auto mount when you put it in the dock.

Use the 'safely remove hardware' icon in your sys tray to 'stop' the iPod, you can then remove it from the dock.
