Came back to an IPOD!
Hello,
I was a G2 Ipoder! Then when it started failing, I decided to get another mp3 player, but didn't want to pay $499 for a 40gb G3 Ipod.
So, I decided to go for the Creative Nomad Zen NX Xtra 40gb for $350. Along with it, purchased a USB 2.0 pci card, and a 4yr warranty from Best Buy. Final price $467! I'm like ok, it still is cheaper then $500 something after tax for a 40gb ipod.
Bought it home, set it up, and I could tell you it is a world of difference from the slick easy land of IPOD. The controls on the ZEN NX Xtra SUCK! The scroll on the side, was soo hard, that it hurt my thumb evertime I scrolled through the playlist or Artist. The final straw was that the thing crashed on my like twice, once while I was traveling back home in the train. Now I don't care if it crashed, cause even the Ipod crashed sometimes, but to reset the Zen, I need stick a pin into pinhole(reset). Now, how the heck am I going to get a pin when I'm traveling in the subway or walking around.
SO I said freak it, returned it and luckily for me, the Best Buy I went to, had a returned 40gb Ipod selling for $450. I quickly picked it up with the 4 yr warranty for like $500.
Now, I am a happy little camper! I'm glad I'm a Ipoder again!

Nutzer - can you detect any difference in sound quality between your 2nd gen and 3rd gen ipods. I own a 20GB 2nd gen and eventually may upgrade to the 40GB 3G - but then put it on hold when I read some folks saying they thought sound quality of 40GB wasn't as good as their 2G pods. (
What do you think? Thanks ...

To tell you the truth, I believe they are pretty much the same. I tested it out, cause I still have my 2nd Gen and my new 3rd Gen. If anything, the ones that are complaing are just fickle music snobs!
I mean, for the everyday user, there is not much difference between the two. The only problem I had was that I felt the volume level could be higher, but I corrected that with euphod.

The only difference between the 2g and 3g iPods is a Docking Station.

Thanks Nutzer for your thoughts - I asked because I'd read some comments (couldn't quickly locate the thread) which raised the question.
And not to be unreasonably picky but there are more differences between 2G and 3G than simply the docking station - they run different system software (don't know how differences could affect the sound quality), have different battery times, & use different harddrives, and with the new button layout on 3Gs, the "innards" can't be precisely the same. So it seemed posible that the sound quality could be different (ideally better - but that's not what the earlier thread had said) in the 3G's.

I am a former (original) Zen owner who has found the light and bought a 3g 20GB iPod. As Nutzer pointed out, it's a world of difference between the two players. The iPod is smaller, lighter, easier to navigate, has more support from not only its manufacturer but also from third party companies and it's so "cool" looking!
What was so annoying about the Zen was the warranty, it was only 90 days as compared to the iPod's 1 year warranty. I've bought less expensive electronic equipment with longer warranties than the Zen.
