WMA Music on my IPOD - what to do?

I am now ready and eager to actually buy the music I want online..but all the new services are selling the music as WMA's which doesn't work on my beloved IPOD.

Why are they doing this? Why do they want to use that format?

And how can I convert the WMA's to MP3's so I can listen to it? I've downloaded three programs that claim to be able to convert but they did not work on the music I bought from Musicmatch 8.1

I see that NAPSTER will also use the WMA format.

Yheap, WMA files cannot be played on iPods.

"Why do they want to use that format?"
According to other postings, this format offers more security when it comes to the times that it can be copied. I guess, somehow, it keeps track of how many times you have copies, and when it reaches that limit... dazit!

"And how can I convert the WMA's to MP3's so I can listen to it?"
There's a load of programs that you could use to convert the files. Do a search in Google (How to convert WMA to MP3) in you'll be presented with a long list of links.
By the same token, some claim that by converting WMA to MP3, the quality of the MP3 will be detiorated big time. I have not tried it myself, so I can not reasure it.
I think the Rhapsody is one of the eMusic services that offer MP3 format.. I'm not sure though.
Good Luck

one problem: secure wmas like the ones from online music stores sell cannot be converted to mp3 diretly. that would defeat the whole purpose of security. instead you wil have to burn them to cd and then rip them as mp3s.

I guess the whole industry will then have to switch to WMA format. ####. Out with the IPOD.

Also, Rhapsody does not sell MP3s, at least not in any form you can get at.

To the original question, take a look at this post ( http://www.ipodlounge.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&postid=69215#post69215) I just made in another thread.
