Updater... please help

first of all to cover my back, i think i've looked at all relevant posts in this forum and haven't found an answer!!

right my problem -

1) mate borrows ipod
2) mate breaks ipod
3) i can't fix ipod
4) lost a mate!!

but most importantly is number 3. Ipod (10gb g3 by the way) came back to me, couldn't do anything, just showing some folder error screen.. i thought no problem i'll just restore it, his music was crap anyway. This is where all the problems begin.

i start off the updater, 2.0 or 2.0.1 tried both. It all starts off nicely, it recognises ipod and i click the restore button. ipod display is 'do not disconnect' and it seems to go thru formatting the drive... just before it finishes the status bar the ipod dispay shows 'ok to disconnect' and that's as far as it will go.

if i disconnect and put it back in it says restore complete, but still it's not working. if i plug into mains it does nothing but charge. i've tried all the things like hard reset, force firewired it, testing some things in the config menu... but to no avail. I'm seriously stuck now and some help would be much appreciated

thanks in advance!!

oh yeh and i'm using XP pro
