Write Delay, Cant Mount, Buffer Skip

Alright, I have a 30g iPod running on a win2k pc with an adaptec 4300 firewire card.

My issues? I've had this ipod for a few months now with NO problems. Recently I've noticed that during playback when it tried to buffer the songs it will skip to the next song when it's finished buffering. Annoying, but no big deal.

Then this last week, I'm getting the dreaded and much discussed WRITE DELAY ERROR when I'm trying to sync my ipod. I've tried restoring it, letting the battery die, uninstall, reinstall. I've read on here that it could be my firewire card and that I should use the adaptec 4300. Well, that's what I'm using.

The really strange thing about this error is when I get it, and the message says I lost all my data... Well, if I disconnect my ipod and reconnect it... no tracks show up. None on music match, none on the ipod. But if I go into the drive, I can see the mp3s in the folders. So, the music is there, but the ipod won't recognize them.

This doesn't seem like a firewire problem but an ipod problem.

Oh, and to rub salt in the wound, then I do a restore now, when it's done it says it can't mount the ipod.

So, it's trashed isn't it?

Yeah, this sounds like an iPod problem. I've never seen this w/the Adaptec except when the iPod drive itself went bad.

Try a Disk Scan.

Do a reset (menu + pause/play)

At the apple logo, press the FF, REW, Menu and Center buttons. A disk scan icon will come up. Wait for it to finish. When it's done it will tell you if the HDD is OK. Or you'll get a sad iPod icon. If you get that, send it in for repair.

But I personally think it's something to do w/the iPod.

You didn't install Nero recently did you? If so, try uninstalling that and see if it improves things. That used to cause problems for some people...but that was way back w/the 1st gen iPods.
