"Cant mount IPOD" problem

Hi there... I recently tried to get my IPOD to work with Ephpod which marked the beginining of a what I fear may be the demise of my 3 month old baby ipod (30GB). After successfully installing EPhpod, I followed its instruction to identify which drive letter my ipod was assigned as. After completing this step, a notification popped up telling me that I needed to have my directory structure (in the IPOD) restructured to which I clicked to proceed. Unfortunately this failed and I was told that I needed to restore my IPOD using the updater. I followed this instruction but when I tried to, I kept encountering the "can't mount ipod" error.

When my ipod is connected, my computer recognises the IPOD (in the explorer) but there seems to be a problem with the IPOD manager and the updater. The manager cannot detect data in the IPOD as it says it has 0kB and when I run the updater, it greys out for quite a while before displaying "Can;t mount ipod"

I have scoured through your posts to find a solution to my predicament but have come up zero. I tried to numerous approaches from uninstalling all IPOD related applications (leaving the updater) to Forced Firewire mode updates.

Please someone HELLLLPPP!!! I'm going nuts here trying to figure a way around this.

some info - Win XP, Current system in pod 2.0.1

Try uninstalling iPod Manager. Reboot. Then run the Updater from Start>Programs>iPod.

Tried what you suggested, unistalling all software associations with the ipod except for the updater but got no where. The updater looks as if its trying to communicate with my ipod but eventually (after a good 5 mins) says that the ipod is not connected.

Really appreciate any suggestions thus far ... do you have any other ideas?

latest development... after numerous unsuccesful attempts previously I gave up and left my ipod for a couple of days. Just today I decided to give me luck a go and connected my ipod in the glimmer of hope that some divine intervention in the past couple of days would solve my woes. NOT!!!

Now, when it boots up... it firstly displays the apple logo and then a picture of a folder and an exclamation mark shows up before it shuts down on its own. The folder and exclamation mark is much like the low battery sign just the battery logo replaced with a folder logo. Can someone tell me what this means?

I am having the same problem as you including the bizare icon of a folder and exclamation point. I searched and found this thread so I am hoping this is an old post and you have found the answer.

Thank you for your time.

Maybe if you tried to reboot your iPod; and on your computer reinstall the software that came with it, and use the updater to set factory settings
Good Luck!

Wow!
I thought it was just me!
Well Im not alone in the Fact EphPod has Killed Ipods!
My Beloved 20gb 4th gen has suffered EXACTLY the same fate so is currently being used and an Interesting Paper Weight..(Im not actually Joking..)

Im totally screwed for sending it back as the Screen is damaged (It has been almost since i got it) so even though my Ipod is only 4 Months Old I cant do anything :( :(

If anyone does find a solution to this damned problem post it please!!

I had the same problem and i had just about given up hope when i fixed it.

This is what i did and it worked!

I held the menu and select button for about
6 seconds till the APPLE logo appeared

While the apple LOGO was still on the display
screen I simultaneously pressed the "next" and "previous" track buttons for about 10 seconds.........

VIOLAAAAAA! it works :)
