Ive done everything...yet nothing works!
OK. I'm on a Windows ME, i just recently bought and installed a IEE1394 firewire card and i hooked my ipod up to it and put in the instal CD and then the configuration screen came up and it wouldn't let me configure my ipod! The updater doesn't even detect the ipod either. However my ipod charges while it's plugged into the firewire slot...So that means it's connected right? What am i doing wrong? :(

I'd suggest checking two things:
1) In Device Manager, make sure the firewire card doesn't have a red X or a yellow Exclamation point next to it. Those both indicate that Windows is having problems with the card. It may be just a case of not installing all of or the correct drivers for the card.
2) When you connect your iPod via firewire, and go into My Computer, does the iPod show up as a new drive? If not, then you won't be able to update the iPod, as Windows isn't recognizing it as an external drive. Since you're getting a battery charge, I'd guess there's no problem with your firewire cable, and probably that the card is seated correctly in your computer.
What brand of firewire card did you install? I know some people have had mixed results with some brands.

Well in my computer it doesn't show up as a new drive...only when i plug it into the usb 1.1 port which i can't use because im on a windows ME andwith windows me its firewire only. How do i get into the device manager? Oh yeah and the firewire card im using is an office essentials i.Link or somethin like that.

Since it shows up in USB and not with firewire, I'm still leaning towards a problem with your firewire card.
Here's Microsoft's article about using Device Manager in Windows ME:
Windows ME Device Manager Troubleshooting (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=%2Fsupport%2Fwindows%2Ftopics%2F hardware%2Fdevman.asp)
In terms of your firewire card, I don't know anything about that brand. Maybe someone else on this forum has had experience with it.

i tried the website but it said the page could not be displayed.
By the way, the firewire card is an I.Link (or so it says a the bottom right hand side of the box)
I think what i might do is take back this firewire card and buy a new one. There was one that was supposed to be really good that starts with 'A' but i forgot what the name of it is :\

Sorry about the bad link. Try just copying & pasting this one:

As for your card, I believe i.Link is another term for firewire, not a brand name. There should be a manufacturers name either on the box or printed on the card somewhere.
From what I've heard, the more-reliable firewire card brands are Adaptec and Orange Micro.

Hmm well there doesn't seem to be any problem with my computer and my firewire card...The brand is firenet. But i think what im going to do is take this firewire card back and get an adaptec card and we'll see how that works...

YES!!! I took my card back for a refund and bought a different brand and it works!!! HOWEVER...(lol) im formating it right now so that might be why i'm havin a little bit of problems with putting music on here...it's stuck on the "ok to disconnect" screen unless i plug it in (Everything else works otherwise) is this because i need to format it? Cuz that's what it'sdoing right now so we'll see..

What you should do is run the Apple Updater. Click on the Restore button. Make sure you have the correct version for your model.
If you have a card that doesn't charge the iPod, during the restore process you'll need to disconnect it and connect it to the AC adaptor to let it finish the restore.
Otherwise the restore should finish and you should be able to connect it.
If you're stuck at OK to Disconnect, try a Reset (press the Menu + Pause/Play buttons until the apple logo comes up).
When that's done, load up your tunes.

theres a problem though..
When i open up ipod updater it used to work ok and i clicked on restore...and it got all the way to the end and stopped and didnt do anything and the ipod went back to the ok to disconnect screen before it was finished...now it just says cant mount ipod.
Not only that but when i disconnect the ipod and try to get to the main screen its stuck on ok to disconnect so i hold play/pause + menu untill the apple logo appears...then it shows a folder with a '!' beside it and just keeps showing that...I formatted the ipod like twice but it still gives me that message:mad:
