Help!

Today i decided that it was time for me to load some more mp3s onto my ipod.
So, when i went to mount my ipod (both with and without the dock) the 'okay to disconnect' screen kept appearing on the lcd screen. i tried resetting it & resetting it into disk mode and it still will not mount. I can't do a restore or format because it won't mount in the first place. I tried restarting my computer in hopes that it would recognize the ipod, but i got nothing. This has NEVER happened before but i have had problems with this ipod (got a replacement for a defective one from BB) freezing during regular use. I think it might have had a hard drive problem from the beginning. It is a 3G 30GB ipod. Does anybody know anyway to fix this!!!!!!! If not, will BB repair it or give me a replacement for the second time? I don't want to have to do this, because me and this ipod have developed a special bond.
Also, if i do have to get it repaired or replaced, will they give me a 30gb or 40gb?
I have heard about the 40gb's having skipping issues!?
if anyone can help me, thank you.
