Dropped my I-pod

Hi! I got my I pod two days ago. Yesterday I went to buy a case to protect it. Choosing the case I had my ipod in my hand and dropped it in this very moment. The display has a crack and the the there are cracks at the edges (white part of pod) and a crack on one of the keys... Plus: I cant yet tell whether there are any internal damages.
As it is just two days old I was wondering what to do. I read about someone who got it replaced against the payment of a reasonable fee.
Do you think they would do that?
Plus: If not : Does anybody know whether the white cover (and if that exists) the display cover can be exchanged by apple and how much that would cost!

Please help - I really am close to tears about it...:(

If you purchased it on a credit card it may be covered by the card. It's worth checking out. I know alot of cards have theft and damage insursance on products you buy on their credit cards. :)

I know - my credit card only covers travel related stuff. So this is no chance for me...

The Apple warranty doesn't cover it? I broke like everything that came WITH my ipod, as well as screwing up the ipod itself. Apple replaced it all. I didn't even pay shipping. Of course, I got it directly from Apple, but don't they have a manufacturer's warranty anyway? Ignore me if I'm wrong, I'm clueless. But still...I seriously broke everything: remote, case...only the earphones are intact. Got a new old ipod too :'(. Was hoping for the 3G...ah well. Mebbe it'll break again...
