Agressive Techno
I'm looking for some aggressive techno... stuff kinda like Prodigy's "Smack My B itch Up" and things like that. Fast-paced, etc. Any suggestions? Thanks.
# 1 Re: Agressive Techno
hmm. i'm not sure where to begin. first of all prodigy is not generally considered techno. "techno" is a very specific term which refers to a specific style of "electronica" (hate the term, but got to use it). prodigy have gone on to "big beat" which is sorta the fat boy slim style.
so...i've prolly set myself up as some sort of pompous arse of music. i am. i admit. i've listerned to electronic music for 20 years, so i figure it's about time i shoved some weight.
you want some HARDCORE?
well, here it is, mutha f**ka! (and i mean that with a certain sense of hardcore respect and love, mind you.)
PANACEA. his name alone makes wimps shake their knees. he rattles off an old hardcore style with the fierceness of a pitbull on speed and viagra (i.e. he's ready to f**k you up all night). mad, smashing beats, at speeds that would make the prodigy cry.
it's your mission to seek his music out. come back if you survive. good luck.

I'll check it out. Don't worry about being a music arse. I'm going to be majoring in music in college, so I'm pretty sure I'll drive all my friends crazy. Sorry I classified Prodigy as techno, but I figured most people would get what I meant. :)
# 3 Re: Agressive Techno
Well I checked Panacea out. It's definitely AWESOME, and I'll probably buy a CD or two, but it's not exactly what I was looking for. What I really want is a song like Prodigy (and you're right, compared to Prodigy, Panacea is definitely more complicated stuff, and it's really good) that I can play while walking through the halls at school that I can walk to. Something not too complicated, something I don't really have to pay that much attention to. Any ideas?
# 4 Re: Agressive Techno
I'm a big fan of Prodigy, there aren't any bands that I think sound like them. How about some Industial music, I think that would be the closest. Check out Skinny Puppy, Leather Strip, 16 Volt, Meat Beat Manifesto, Pig Face, Hate Dept.
# 5 Re: Agressive Techno
Top of my head... Underworld and Chemical Brothers i guess...
# 6 Re: Agressive Techno
Might I suggest...Peaches, especially her album "The Teaches of Peaches." Her song "F### the Pain Away" is a classic. Also, the Lords of Acid have made some music along the lines of what you're talking about (their album "Our Little Secret" is especially good).
If anything else comes to mind, I'll post it later.

You might want to check out the album "Wreckage" by Overseer. Some really fast paced stuff with a few slower tracks thrown in to break it up a bit. There's some good reviews on Amazon.
At first I wasn't so sure about some of the tracks, but after a few listenings this is now my favorite new album.
I did, however, cut out about 30 minutes from the last track before downloading it to my 'pod. You'll know why when you hear it.

industrial...? similar to prodigy...? uh. ok. skinny puppy isn't exactly the first thing i think of when i think of the prodigy. don't get me wrong. i'm a big puppy fan, and i used to own cevin key's first band's album (when he was kevin crompton)...
anyway, glad you liked the panacea. as for prodigy, hmm. there were a few pretenders who tried to sound like prodigy around when they hit it big, but they've all fallen off now. most mainstream electronica is either of the "progressive house" and "trance" such as sasha or sander kleinberg, or it's the sick to your stomach syrupy nonsense like dj sammy (which was actually composed by sammy's 5 year old sister using fruity loops).
uh, anyway. if you want some stuff you don't have to think about, try www.thinnerism.com. i really mean this in a good way. thinner is possibly my favorite record label in the world, and all their music is free. i listen to it while driving. it's repetitious, and doesn't vary much, and is pretty minimal, but that's all i listen to nowadays. it does funny things to your head.
and it's really pleasant and calming, and you could dance to it too.
my personal favorite album is "vibrant forms II" by fluxion. it's on the chain reaction label. i'm not saying it's for everyone, but this album blew my brain out the back of my skull. it sounds funny to say it, but it altered my own personal time and space. it's that weird. ever trance out? this album will do it every time. mind altering, for sure. no drugs necessary, just an open mind.

geistwerks,
I have been listen to thinner for about a year now thanks to a post by someone in the old fourms. I'm not sure if you were the one who posted the link to thinner in the old fourm but thanks if it was. I can not agree with you more it has to be my favorite label. It also is most mind expanding music for me and i know you know what I mean im going to try and pick up the Fluxion cd. If you have any other on-line labels you dig let me know I have check out a few but none come even close to thinnner. Peace
Eric

yeah, thinner is the greatest. :D
unfortunately, i have yet to find an online label that surpasses them. i've explored their list of links to the fullest, but haven't happened across anything memorable.
you could explore www.scene.org
this is where thinner and a whole bunch of other artists store their music for FTP. it's not very descriptive though, and it's a trial and error kind of thing. most of the music is more IDM based, and i'm not really into that kind of thing for the most part.
and, yeah, that probably was me posting originally. when i found thinner i mentioned it just about everywhere i could think of.
