Well maybe you don't care but I bet the owner of this forum would like not to be sued by the RIAA for encouraging piracy.

cheers, tubedogg. you hit the nail right on the head. anybody posting links to illegal content (like warez sites) ( http://ipodlounge.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=945) will get the boot.

It's not necessarily just a fear of legal consequence, either. Illegal file sharing is theft. You are depriving the record labels and artists of the income which is legitimately theirs. Excessive profits by the record labels, the high cost of CDs, etc. are no defence. Deliberate copyright infringement is theft.

And some people have the morality to understand this and disapprove of it.....

I use Kazaa to download like individual songs or to try out artists before I buy the album. But if you just want one song from one artist I'm not gonna buy the whole album. Services like MM and iTUNES for Windows don't work in the UK yet. So I have no legal way of getting single songs yet, because the service isn't available.

Dowloading newer songs off of Kazaa with big record labels is pointless anyway. As the MP3s are randomly distorted and rearranged throughout. Which would still happen if you brought the CD legally and wanted to put the music onto your iPOD, which is totally innocent. If services like MM were provided earlier and assisted by the RIAA and made readily available when the MP3 first came out services like Kazaa and Napster probably never would have existed. Although now the problem has got very bad and the RIAA are resorting to more extreme methods of battling it, which could have been avoided if they had been more quick and innovative to realise the popularity of MP3.

Whats funny is that u can find Christian music on kazaa...lol

I have this immoral friend that uses kazaalite because it has an option that blocks the RIAA attempts to scan your computer and he never sets up he's computer as a supernode.

Best thing is probably to rip music from your cd's :)
Better quality, easier, legal and so on.

Anyway where is it illegal to download music from Kazaa, DC and programs like that?

Atleast it's not here in Sweden. To download music is legal, to let people download from you is not.

So... where is it illegal? ^^

It's illegal to download music to which you do not own copyright or a licence in the USA, UK, France, Germany, etc. and since Sweden is subject to EU copyright law, it's illegal in Sweden, too!

If the CD's aren't so friggin expensive, and if the artists actually make decent music...perhaps more people would buy music. And do you call it "morality" when the record labels get most of the profits made from CDs while the artists make jack from albums sold? (most of the more successful artists today like Eminem make their cash off tours and producing). The CD's today cost $20.00 while it probably costs 30 cents maximum to make! If they sell CDs for 10 bucks, it would be more reasonable

You rule!!!!!!!
This has to be one of the best explanations I've ever come across....mainly because I explain it the same exact way.

I don't think morality has anything to do with this issue and anybody using it as a defense has obviously got a weak arguement.
