2nd Gen iTRIP vs 3rd Gen iTRIP

My girlfriend has a 2nd gen ipod .... i was rather disappointed with the static/quality of the iTRIP in my car....

would i get the same poor result with my 3rd gen ipod and the new 3rd gen iTRIP?? i would assume that the sound quality would be the same ? or was there actual improvements made to the 3rd gen iTRIP vs that of the 2nd gen iTRIP?

Some do say it's better. I don't have an old version for comparison, but I don't see how the old version could've been much worse. It was almost the worst $35 I've ever spent.
