numbers and dupilcates?
i used my ipod on a different computer b/c i could not get the songs to appear on the ipod or for the playlists to appear on the ipod (see "ephpod ate my songs").....even though they were there b/c the space is obviously being used up. when i got my database of songs....many of them were 4 digit numbers....i understand that that is the way the ipod stores songs that are not tagged but many of them are duplicates and many times they will be separate numbers and duplicate songs. have i lost my data or do i have to go reinstall all the info on these songs? also while i got the songs back (who knows what was wrong with my other computer and ephpod) the playlists and how the songs were distributed in their respective playlists was lost. i had to make a new one called ALL for right now.

i think i have ....i know i did before i got the songs back on the ipod but its worth trying again. i used my dad's labtop to get the files to show again so i am a bit reticent to go back to the pc (which i would need to do if i wanted to place some new songs on the ipod that are on the pc's hd) becasue i am not sure if it will make my files disappear again.

If the songs are on the ipod, then you generally can fix this by simply rebuilding the database. In my almost two years of iPod ownership I've never actually lost files due to a corrupt database, but I suppose it does happen.
