MC9 ratings dont sync with iPod
...and vice versa, actually.
I've got the Smarlists feature goin' pretty well, at least, until I figure out a cool idea that'll make things even more fun for me. :)
Anyways, I just got home a few minutes ago, and remembered that I wanted to post something.
Why won't the ratings I've set in MC9 show up in my iPod? What's more, when I actually wanted to see if my iPod would update a newer rating on MC9 upon synchronizing it, it wouldn't take. The iPod view of all the songs (via MC9) shows no rating on any of songs either.
Is there a setting I'm not aware of? Before I started tinkering with all this, I went through most of Adam's guide off his site and restored my iPod.
Thanks!

# 1 Re: MC9 ratings dont sync with iPod
OK, my help guide is a little out of date. Sorry about that.
Anyway..to get your ratings onto the iPod, first, sync by clicking on the iPod Toolbar icon.
That will get the Ratings, Last Played and other stuff onto the iPod.
To get the iPod data to update MC9, make sure you check the "Sync iPod Info w/MC9" checkbox that's on the Sync Dialog Box.
You have to be using MC9.1 to get this feature to work (9.1.291 is the latest and best version to use).

Thanks Adam, unfortunately, that didn't work. I already had that setting checked as welll. And, I'm definitely using 9.1.291.
Any other thoughts?
TIA

You do have a 3rd gen iPod right. ;)
I can't figure out why this wouldn't be working. Have you done a Restore recently? Actually, there is an easier way: right-click the iPod in MC9, select "Rebuild iPod Database". Then do a sync.

Yeah, I have a 3G iPod...it's indicated in my sig
I went through most of Adam's guide off his site and restored my iPod.
I've rebuilt the iPod DB and ran a sync. "Delete unselected files from Portable" and "Sync data to MC" were both checked in the sync window. That came out with the same results, unfortunately.
Thanks for the replies thus far Adam...shall I up a screenshot?
# 5 Re: MC9 ratings dont sync with iPod
No, I believe you...I'm just shocked it's not working.
Can you email Steve your iTunesDB file? He's at steve @ jriver.com (no spaces).
Let him know the problem and see if he can figure it out...'cause I sure don't know.
The only other thing I could think to try would be to redownload and install MC9--and don't download any plugins of course.

How do I go about backing up the iTunes DB file? I can do this once you reply. I'd like to help him fix the bugs.
I've just clean installed WinXP Pro, so I'm not sure what redownloading MC9 and reinstalling WinXP would help. I'm not using any plugins though, that's for sure.

Oh, to email Steve the iTunesDB file, just access your iPod in My Computer. Open up the hidden ipod_control folder, in the iTunes folder is the file you're looking for.
Just send it to him w/an explanation of your problem.

Gotcha, I'll do that right now. Thanks Adam, I'll post back when Steve sends a response.
# 9 Re: MC9 ratings dont sync with iPod
He's kinda stumped at the moment. Had me "reinitialize" a few times, and transfer one rated MP3...and it didn't take the rating any of the times. He wanted me to delete the Play Counts file, reinitialize, recopy a MP3, but that Play Counts file he wanted me to send never recreated.
So far, I'm thinking he's stumped. But, I hope he figures this out. :P
# 10 Re: MC9 ratings dont sync with iPod
You don't have a playcounts file? Hm...that is indeed interesting.
When was the last time you restored?
# 11 Re: MC9 ratings dont sync with iPod
Earlier today before I went to school, cuz he wanted me to do so. He's had me do it like 3 times actually.
I've listened to music and stuff since then, so there's probably one now. But, I'm not sure if that'd be the case that Steve's looking for. I've emailed him that what he wanted me to do didn't work, so I'll have to wait until tomorrow.
# 12 Re: MC9 ratings dont sync with iPod
I just found out that the BPM, Intensity, or the "Last Played" items don't even get synchronized either.
# 13 Re: MC9 ratings dont sync with iPod
Well, BPM and Intensity won't get sync'd because the iPod's database doesn't support those values, so there's no place to put them.
As far as Last Played, that should be both ways as long as you have the "Sync iPod Info to MC" checked when you sync.

Whoa, guess what! Problem solved! The ratings copied over! Not sure about the last song played, but the ratings were copied! Yay! The bleeding edge latest version 9.1.298 works! The latest stable version I had was 9.1.291.
Build of 9.1.298 is here (as of 5:19pm today):
ftp://ftp.jriver.com/pub/downloads/music/MediaCenter91298.exe
9.1.298 Fixes:
9.1.298 History
1. NEW: Added "Internal Volume" mode for zone-specific / MC-specific volume control. (click speaker image next to volume slider)
2. Fixed: If user got MC license from a non-IE browser, they might get error "Failed extracting licence from file".
3. Fixed: Hairstyle "Play" would not always honor the selection.
4. Changed: Duration formatted hh:mm:ss up to 100 hours -- then switches to 2.3 days, etc.
9.1.297 Fixes:
History
1. Fixed: Skin Effects were enabled by default.
2. Fixed: CD / DVD virtual folders had their first letter cut off in the tree.
3. Fixed: CD folders and CD virtual folders were using the same icon.
4. Fixed: With MC maximized, hot swapping of skins and skin effects wouldn't fully take effect.
5. Changed: Hot swapping of skins / skin effects faster.
6. Changed: By default, image playback caption no longer says "Playing" when playing. (still says "Paused" when paused)
7. Changed: When "Update from CD database" is selected and YADB doesn't find a match, MC checks for cd-text and cdplayer.ini info.
8. Fixed: "This Folder" was not working properly.
9.1.295 Fixes:
History
1. Changed: When clicking "Play" on a view with no files, MC does nothing instead of clearing Playing Now.
2. Fixed: Action Window top border would look bad when auto-hiding in "Image" mode.
3. NEW: MC no longer needs to be restarted to change MEGA-ME skins.

History
1. Fixed: Media Server was crashing.
2. NEW: Audio CD tracks can be burned directly from a CD reader to a CD burner drive.
3. Fixed: Duplicate tracks can be removed from an audio CD burn queue. Previously, if you removed one, they both got removed.
4. Fixed: Some DVD decoder property pages did not respond properly to mouse/keyboard inputs.
5. Changed: The "Burn CD" button no longer adds files to the burn queue if they have already been queued.
6. NEW: Added support for new tag ID3 v2 fields (Band, Conductor, Composer, Lyricist, Original Lyricist, Original Artist, Initial Key, Subtitle)
